Tirzepatide Oral Tablet
How Tirzepatide Oral helps with weight loss
Tirzepatide Oral Tablet is the tablet formulation of tirzepatide, the dual GIP/GLP-1 medication also offered as a weekly injection. It is a distinct formulation from the injectable and is prescribed through its own programs. Weight management is personal. Your provider uses your history, goals, and health information to decide whether a GLP-1 medication fits, and which one makes sense for you.
Two GLP-1 options
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are both weekly injections. Your provider explains the differences and which may suit you better.
Metabolic support
MIC-B12 (methionine, inositol, choline, and B12) is available as an add-on your provider may consider alongside your plan.
Ongoing follow-up
Your care team checks in, adjusts your dose over time, and answers questions along the way.
Provider-guided from start to finish
A licensed provider reviews your health history, checks for contraindications, sets an appropriate starting plan, and monitors your progress over time.
How to use it
Clear instructions for your specific medication arrive with your first order.

It's not a lack of willpower.It's biology.
Appetite, hormones and metabolism can quietly work against you. A Medura plan is built by a licensed provider to work with your body, not against it.
Hunger stays switched on. Cravings and constant food noise can keep pulling at you, even right after a full meal.
Hormones change the rules. Age, stress, poor sleep, pregnancy and menopause can all shift how your body holds on to weight.
Your body fights back. As you lose weight, metabolism can slow and appetite can rise, so every fresh start feels harder.

Medication guide
What to know about Tirzepatide Oral Tablet
General education to help you prepare for a conversation with a licensed provider. It is not a prescription or personal medical advice.
- Generic name
- Tirzepatide
- Brand names
- None (no FDA-approved oral tirzepatide). Injectable brands: Zepbound, Mounjaro
- Drug class
- Dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist
- Form
- Tablet taken by mouth
- Regulatory status
- Compounded, not FDA-approved
There is no FDA-approved oral form of tirzepatide. A tirzepatide tablet is a compounded preparation that is not FDA-approved, and it has not been shown that tirzepatide taken by mouth is absorbed in amounts comparable to the injection.
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are dispensed. A compounded preparation can differ from approved products in strength, ingredients, dosage form and how it is absorbed, so it should not be assumed to work the same way as an approved medication. Compounding is meant for patients whose needs cannot be met by an FDA-approved drug.
Overview
A compounded tirzepatide tablet for people who prefer to avoid injections. It is intended to support appetite control as part of a weight-management plan, but its effectiveness has not been established.
Who may be evaluated for it
- Adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol (the criteria used for the FDA-approved weight-management products).
- People who have tried nutrition and activity changes and want medical support alongside them.
Who may not be a good fit
- Anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
- People who are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People with a history of pancreatitis, severe stomach-emptying problems (gastroparesis) or a prior serious allergic reaction to the medication need a careful provider review and are often not candidates.
- People using GLP-1 medications for cosmetic weight loss without a medical indication.
How it works
Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors: GLP-1 and GIP. Together they act on brain areas that control hunger and fullness, slow stomach emptying, and help the pancreas release insulin when blood sugar is high.
It lasts about 5 days in the body, which is why it is injected once a week.
What is still uncertain
How much the GIP part adds beyond GLP-1 alone is still being studied. Why response varies so much between people is not fully understood.
Potential benefits and realistic timelines
What the evidence supports
- Brand-name injectable tirzepatide is well studied for weight management (SURMOUNT trials).
Not established
- No published clinical trial has shown that compounded oral tirzepatide produces weight loss.
- Peptide medications like tirzepatide are largely broken down in the stomach; how much a compounded tablet delivers is unknown.
- UnknownBecause there are no clinical studies of oral tirzepatide tablets, no reliable timeline can be given. Your provider will reassess based on your own response.
- Typical reassessmentProviders commonly review progress and side effects after the first few months of any weight-management medication.
Results vary from person to person. Your provider decides whether and how long to continue.
How it’s used
- Take exactly as written on your pharmacy label. Timing relative to food is set by the compounding pharmacy and your provider.
- Do not take alongside injectable tirzepatide or any other GLP-1 medication.
If you miss a dose
No official guidance exists for compounded tablets. Follow your pharmacy label or ask your provider; do not double up.
Storage and handling
Store as directed on the pharmacy label, typically at room temperature away from moisture.
Your prescription label and provider instructions always take priority over this general information. Do not change your dose or stop without talking to your provider.
Side effects and safety
More common, usually manageable
- Nausea
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Vomiting
- Stomach pain and indigestion
- Decreased appetite
- Injection-site reactions
- Tiredness
Less common but serious
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis).
- Gallbladder problems, including gallstones.
- Kidney injury, usually from dehydration after vomiting or diarrhea.
- Low blood sugar, mainly when combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea.
- Serious allergic reactions.
- Thyroid C-cell tumors seen in rodent studies (boxed warning on the FDA-approved products); whether this happens in humans is unknown.
- Slowed stomach emptying, which can raise the risk of inhaling stomach contents during anesthesia or sedation.
- Depression or thoughts of self-harm (monitored for with weight-management medications).
Get medical help right away
- Severe stomach pain that does not go away, with or without vomiting, which can spread to your back (possible pancreatitis).
- Pain in the upper right abdomen, fever, yellow skin or eyes, or clay-colored stools (possible gallbladder problem).
- A lump or swelling in the neck, trouble swallowing, hoarseness or shortness of breath.
- Signs of dehydration such as very little urine, dizziness or confusion after ongoing vomiting or diarrhea.
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room for chest pain, trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, fainting, or signs of a stroke (sudden weakness, numbness, trouble speaking or seeing).
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
Not for use during pregnancy. Tirzepatide can reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills (see interactions). Stop and contact your provider if you become pregnant. Not recommended while breastfeeding without a provider discussion.
Interactions and combinations
Known interactions
- Insulin and sulfonylureas (such as glipizide): higher risk of low blood sugar; doses of those medications may need to be lowered.
- Oral medications in general: slowed stomach emptying can change how other pills are absorbed. Medications with a narrow safety range, such as warfarin or levothyroxine, may need closer monitoring.
- Other GLP-1 or GIP/GLP-1 medications: should not be combined.
- Alcohol: can worsen nausea and raise the risk of low blood sugar in people with diabetes.
- Birth control pills: tirzepatide can make oral contraceptives less effective. The label advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method, for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.

Tirzepatide can reduce effectiveness; ask about backup contraception.
- Insulin or sulfonylureasUse with caution
Risk of low blood sugar.
Monitoring and follow-up
- An initial review of your weight history, medical conditions, current medications and family history of thyroid cancer.
- Baseline labs may be ordered, for example blood sugar (A1c), kidney function or lipids, depending on your history.
- Regular check-ins during dose increases to review side effects, weight trend, hydration and appetite.
- People with diabetes may need closer blood sugar monitoring, and a review of retinopathy history.
- The dose may be held, lowered or stopped if side effects are hard to tolerate or results are not meaningful after a fair trial.
Lab tests and follow-up visits are not included in the medication price unless your plan says so. Your provider will tell you what is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an FDA-approved tirzepatide pill?
No. Tirzepatide is only FDA-approved as a weekly injection (Zepbound and Mounjaro). Tablets are compounded and not FDA-approved.
Will it work as well as the injection?
This is unknown. There are no published trials of oral tirzepatide tablets, and peptides are largely broken down in the digestive tract.
Are the side effects the same?
If absorbed, side effects would be expected to resemble the injection: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation, plus the same serious risks such as pancreatitis and gallbladder problems.
Does it affect birth control?
Injectable tirzepatide reduces the effectiveness of birth control pills. Assume the same may apply and ask your provider about backup contraception.
Do I need a prescription?
Yes. After your free consultation, a licensed provider reviews your intake to decide whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate for you.
What is the difference between Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
Both are weekly injections. Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 receptor; Tirzepatide acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. Your provider explains which may suit you.
What is MIC-B12?
MIC-B12 combines methionine, inositol, choline, and vitamin B12. Your provider decides whether it makes sense as part of your plan.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. Medura accepts HSA and FSA cards at checkout, and we can provide documentation for reimbursement if you need it.
What happens after I request treatment through Medura?
You complete an online assessment about your health history, current medications and goals. A licensed provider reviews it and decides whether a prescription is appropriate. Completing the assessment does not guarantee a prescription. If one is written, a licensed pharmacy prepares and ships it, and your provider can adjust or stop treatment as needed. If lab work is needed, your provider will tell you; it may be ordered and billed separately.
