Sermorelin Troche
This sermorelin troche dissolves slowly in the mouth, offering a needle-free way to take the growth-hormone-releasing peptide. Oral absorption of peptides is less established than injection, so this compounded option is prescribed only after provider review. Supplied as 90 or 96 troches, depending on the formulation.

Sermorelin Troche
How Sermorelin supports energy and recovery
Sermorelin Troche 600 mcg is a dissolvable troche containing sermorelin, the same peptide offered as an injection. It is supplied as a 90-count for daily use. Sermorelin does not replace your growth hormone. It signals your pituitary gland to produce more of its own, preserving the natural feedback loops your body uses to regulate levels safely over time.
Works with your body, not around it
Unlike synthetic HGH, Sermorelin stimulates your own pituitary to release growth hormone in pulses that follow your natural rhythm. Your body retains control of how much it produces, which is a meaningful difference from synthetic HGH.
Sleep, recovery, and lean composition
Growth hormone is released primarily during deep sleep and plays a central role in tissue repair and lean body maintenance. Many patients notice improved sleep and recovery before other changes become apparent.

Medication guide
What to know about Sermorelin Troche
General education to help you prepare for a conversation with a licensed provider. It is not a prescription or personal medical advice.
- Generic name
- Sermorelin acetate
- Brand names
- Geref (discontinued)
- Drug class
- Growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analog
- Form
- Troche (600 mcg) dissolved in the mouth
- Regulatory status
- Compounded, not FDA-approved
- FDA-approved use
- Previously (Geref): idiopathic growth hormone deficiency in children; diagnostic evaluation of pituitary function.
Sermorelin was FDA-approved (Geref) for growth hormone deficiency in children and for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer discontinued it in 2008; FDA has stated this was not for safety or effectiveness reasons. No FDA-approved sermorelin is currently marketed, so available sermorelin is compounded. Use in adults for wellness or aging is off-label and not established. Sermorelin was never approved as a troche, and absorption of peptides through the lining of the mouth has not been established.
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are dispensed. A compounded preparation can differ from approved products in strength, ingredients, dosage form and how it is absorbed, so it should not be assumed to work the same way as an approved medication. Compounding is meant for patients whose needs cannot be met by an FDA-approved drug.
Overview
Sermorelin is used by some providers in adults to stimulate the body’s own growth hormone release. Benefits for aging, body composition or sleep in healthy adults are not established.
Who may be evaluated for it
- Adults who have discussed the limited evidence with a provider and have no condition that growth hormone could worsen.
Who may not be a good fit
- People with active cancer or a history of cancer (growth hormone signals can promote cell growth).
- People with untreated hypothyroidism, or pituitary or hypothalamic disease, need specialist review.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How it works
Sermorelin is a short piece of the brain’s natural GHRH. It signals the pituitary gland to release growth hormone in pulses, which then raises IGF-1, a hormone made mostly by the liver.
Because it works through the pituitary, the body’s normal feedback controls still apply, unlike direct growth hormone injections.
What is still uncertain
Whether raising growth hormone in healthy adults improves health, and what the long-term effects are, is not known.
Potential benefits and realistic timelines
What the evidence supports
- Sermorelin increases growth hormone release and IGF-1 levels.
- It increased growth in children with growth hormone deficiency (approved use, now discontinued).
Early or limited research
- Small studies in older adults reported changes in IGF-1 and some body composition measures.
Not established
- Anti-aging effects.
- Meaningful improvements in muscle, fat loss, sleep or energy in healthy adults.
- Long-term safety in adults.
- WeeksIGF-1 levels can rise within a few weeks.
- 3 to 6 monthsProviders commonly reassess IGF-1, side effects and how you feel.
Results vary from person to person. Your provider decides whether and how long to continue.
How it’s used
- Let the troche dissolve fully in the cheek or under the tongue; do not chew or swallow.
- Usually taken at bedtime on an empty stomach, as directed.
If you miss a dose
Skip it and resume your usual schedule. Do not double up.
Storage and handling
Store as on your pharmacy label; some troches are refrigerated.
Your prescription label and provider instructions always take priority over this general information. Do not change your dose or stop without talking to your provider.
Side effects and safety
More common, usually manageable
- Mouth irritation
- Headache
- Flushing
Less common but serious
- Allergic reactions
- Possible effects of raised growth hormone/IGF-1, such as fluid retention, joint pain or changes in blood sugar
Get medical help right away
- Hives, swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing
- Severe headache with vision changes
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room for chest pain, trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, fainting, or signs of a stroke (sudden weakness, numbness, trouble speaking or seeing).
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
Not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Interactions and combinations
Known interactions
- Glucocorticoids (steroids) can blunt its effect.
- Thyroid hormone status affects response.
- Insulin and diabetes medications: growth hormone can raise blood sugar.
Related treatments and options
Listed for education, not as a recommendation to combine. Any combination needs your provider’s approval.
- Other growth hormone secretagogues (e.g. ipamorelin, CJC-1295)Avoid
Not offered by Medura; several are on FDA’s list of substances with safety concerns for compounding.

Sometimes offered together; no evidence of combined benefit.
Monitoring and follow-up

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a prescription?
Yes. After your free consultation, a licensed provider reviews your intake and health history to decide whether this treatment is right for you.
How is Sermorelin different from HGH?
Sermorelin stimulates your body to produce its own growth hormone naturally, rather than replacing it with synthetic hormone. Your provider determines whether it is appropriate for you.
How is Sermorelin taken?
Sermorelin is typically a small subcutaneous injection you give yourself at home before bed, timed to work with your body's natural hormone rhythm. Your provider sets your dose and schedule.
How soon will I notice results?
Many patients notice better sleep and recovery in the first weeks. Lean composition and energy changes build over months. Individual results vary.
What are the common side effects?
Effects are usually mild, such as redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site, temporary flushing, mild fluid retention early on, or an occasional headache or dizziness. Your provider reviews the risks with you during your consultation.
What if a provider decides this isn't right for me?
Your consultation is free, and no payment is needed to complete the assessment. If a provider decides this treatment isn't appropriate for you, they will explain why and may suggest other options.
How much does it cost?
The consultation is free and you pay nothing to complete the assessment. If a provider approves treatment, you see the exact monthly price for your plan before you are charged. There are no surprise fees.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. Medura accepts HSA and FSA cards at checkout, and we can provide documentation for reimbursement if you need it.
How is it shipped?
Your treatment arrives in plain, unbranded packaging with no pharmacy name on the outside. Temperature-sensitive items ship with cold-chain protection.
What happens after I request treatment through Medura?
You complete an online assessment about your health history, current medications and goals. A licensed provider reviews it and decides whether a prescription is appropriate. Completing the assessment does not guarantee a prescription. If one is written, a licensed pharmacy prepares and ships it, and your provider can adjust or stop treatment as needed. If lab work is needed, your provider will tell you; it may be ordered and billed separately.
